To say Jess and Joe’s wedding on December 20 was a fun time would be a complete understatement.

Their wedding party, personal attendants, and parents were so friendly, flexible, and easy-going.

Let me paint a picture.

Michigan typically has snow on the ground throughout the winter, but the rains came just in time for their wedding. I think when you plan a December wedding you expect the unexpected, but even so, Joe and Jess were troopers. They were up for anything, and allowed us to document the TRUE story of their day.

Once the day began, it was obvious they understood it wasn’t about the details anymore, and it wasn’t about things being perfect anymore. It was about their marriage and the start of their life together. Now it was time to celebrate.

They got ready at the beautiful Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo.

Jess’s mom surprised her with a beautiful handkerchief.

C’mon, Jess. The stole, the umbrella, the flowers. That LOOK. I can’t handle it.

While I was with the girls, Troy spent some time with the guys.

From Joe’s room he could see First Baptist Church, the site of their ceremony.

Coolest. Shoes. Ever.

I think Joe’s a model in his secret life 🙂
We love when couples opt for a “first look,” allowing us to spend time taking pictures with them before the day gets too crazy!

At our introductory meeting, Joe and Jess explained they’d rather not have posed pictures. Fortunately for us, their real interactions are beyond adorable and made it easy for us to capture “them.”

We hopped in the limo and jetted over to Cityscape Events to prepare for the PARTY.

Did I mention it was a party?

I’ve never photographed the signing of the marriage license two feet away from the dance floor…smack dab in the middle of the party…right in front of the speakers :).

Perhaps I should clarify in my wedding contracts. If “Love Shack” by the B52s is played at your wedding, I WILL stop what I’m doing and dance. Okay?

Jess and Joe, thanks for putting up with our ideas and making the day great. We obviously had a great time with your family and friends. Blessings to you!
