Kyle and Leah are from Lafayette but relocated to Rhode Island so Leah could attend the Rhode Island School of Design. She’s a furniture designer, (yep, just like Tim, one of our favorite grooms in June!) I left their engagement session certain of a few things:

1. They have the cutest, sweetest dog you will ever meet.
2. Leah has beautiful eyes.
3. Kyle has a fantastic smile.
4. This couple is madly in love.

Photographing Kyle and Leah is so easy. After 10 years of dating, they planned a beautiful September wedding at Sahm’s Atrium at the Tower. No one could anticipate the heatwave we’d experience, but these two understood our phrase, “Momentary pleasure for a lifetime of beautiful pictures!” and braved the heat with a style and grace.

Here’s a glimpse at their wedding story:

Check out this family and their tradition of singing Bohemian Rapsody on stage– including great grandma and the babies:)sahmsatriumatthetowerwedding064sahmsatriumatthetowerwedding065
Kyle and Leah, we had a great day with you and your families. Many blessings to both of you!

Daniel and Elaina were high school sweethearts and have been together for nine years. When we first met, Daniel spoke about his Serbian heritage. He spoke of some Serbian wedding traditions that I was so excited to learn more about: the kum and kuma, the sashes, the wearing of crowns at their greek orthodox ceremony, the skup…

One of the traditions that was meaningful to Troy and me was the kum and kuma (pronounced ‘koom‘ and ‘koom-a‘). The kum and kuma are simply the best man and maid of honor, but their role is much, much more. The terms symbolize two types of relationships: The godfather/godmother/godchild relationship and the best man/maid of honor, but the kum/kuma is not limited to baptism and marriage ceremonies; it defines a special spiritual relationship that continues throughout life. There is an old Serbian saying to emphasize this, “God in Heaven and Kum on earth.”

We were honored to document this day. Daniel and Elaina are so hospitable and engaging. We felt like we were part of the family too. The energy and love we felt during their entire wedding day celebration made a lasting impression on us.

As is the custom in Serbia, the pre-wedding festivities included lots of food, drinks, music and dancing with family and friends….indianpolisweddingphotographers0064indianpolisweddingphotographers0065indianpolisweddingphotographers0066indianpolisweddingphotographers00672015-09-11_0022015-09-11_0032015-09-11_0042015-09-11_001indianpolisweddingphotographers0068indianpolisweddingphotographers0069indianpolisweddingphotographers0070indianpolisweddingphotographers0071indianpolisweddingphotographers0072indianpolisweddingphotographers0073indianpolisweddingphotographers0074Daniel and Elaina debated about a first look. I’m so glad they decided to do it. It allowed them to spend time with their wedding party beforehand, but it also allowed us time to capture beautiful portraits of the couple before the ceremony!indianpolisweddingphotographers0075indianpolisweddingphotographers0076indianpolisweddingphotographers0077indianpolisweddingphotographers0078indianpolisweddingphotographers0079indianpolisweddingphotographers0080indianpolisweddingphotographers0081indianpolisweddingphotographers0082indianpolisweddingphotographers0083indianpolisweddingphotographers0084indianpolisweddingphotographers0085indianpolisweddingphotographers0086indianpolisweddingphotographers0087indianpolisweddingphotographers0088indianpolisweddingphotographers0089indianpolisweddingphotographers0090indianpolisweddingphotographers0091indianpolisweddingphotographers0092indianpolisweddingphotographers0093indianpolisweddingphotographers0094indianpolisweddingphotographers0095indianpolisweddingphotographers0096indianpolisweddingphotographers0097indianpolisweddingphotographers0098indianpolisweddingphotographers0099indianpolisweddingphotographers0100indianpolisweddingphotographers0101indianpolisweddingphotographers0102indianpolisweddingphotographers0103indianpolisweddingphotographers0104indianpolisweddingphotographers01052015-09-11_0052015-09-11_0072015-09-11_0062015-09-11_0092015-09-11_010indianpolisweddingphotographers0106indianpolisweddingphotographers0108indianpolisweddingphotographers0109indianpolisweddingphotographers0110indianpolisweddingphotographers0111We loved the flags waving and kolo dancing outside the church. A kolo is a traditional Serbian circle dance. Coins were tossed to children by Sasha, the kum, as Daniel and Elaina exited the church to symbolize good luck and financial prosperity.serbianweddingindianpolisweddingphotographers0112indianpolisweddingphotographers0113indianpolisweddingphotographers0114indianpolisweddingphotographers0115indianpolisweddingphotographers0116indianpolisweddingphotographers0117indianpolisweddingphotographers0118The party continued at The Woods on Westfield.indianpolisweddingphotographers0119indianpolisweddingphotographers0120indianpolisweddingphotographers0121indianpolisweddingphotographers0122indianpolisweddingphotographers0124indianpolisweddingphotographers0125indianpolisweddingphotographers0126indianpolisweddingphotographers0127indianpolisweddingphotographers0128indianpolisweddingphotographers0129indianpolisweddingphotographers0130indianpolisweddingphotographers0131indianpolisweddingphotographers0132Daniel and Elaina, we love you and your families! When Mimi called to ask if we were available on her wedding date, I was just thrilled. I met Mimi at her sister’s wedding a few years ago and loved her energy. Audra, Mimi’s sister, works with Josh and set them up because, as she said in her maid of honor speech, “Who wouldn’t want Josh for a brother-in-law?!”

Troy and I are continually blessed by our brides and grooms. Josh and Mimi are no exception. It was apparent to us that these two are hard working, fiercely loyal, and well respected, but they’re also totally in love and SO MUCH FUN!

They celebrated their marriage at Oscar Swan Country Inn in Geneva– a beautiful English Inn in the midst of the Chicago Suburbs– on a perfect summer evening.
