We don’t shoot a lot of weddings in the winter, but this year is different! We have the privilege of having four weddings in December/January, and Gavin and Megan are kicking that off with a classy blue and gold Purdue Memorial Union Wedding! We met Gavin and Megan last March at their chilly engagement session and loved our time with them. Naturally, we were thrilled to be a part of their big day!

The Couple

Gavin and Megan met when attending ZOOBILATION, the Indianapolis Zoo’s fundraising event. Gavin’s sister, Erin, suggested he take Megan, Megan told Erin she didn’t want to be set up with her brother, but Gavin had just moved back to town and needed a date, and well…. it turns out that Erin knew what she was talking about. They’ve been together ever since!

The Wedding

Gavin and Megan are graduates of Purdue, and although they didn’t know each other during college, they’re Boilermakers through and through. Megan’s dad and Gavin were even in the same fraternity! So it was natural for them to choose the Purdue Memorial Union as the backdrop for their gorgeous, classy party! We traveled around campus in the most adorable Christmas trolly and made sure to take pictures at many of Purdue’s landmarks, including the site where Gavin proposed.

Here’s a few of our favorites!

I almost didn’t bring my camera. I’m always conscious when I’m with my family that I’ll enter my own little photography world and won’t be present with them, and I didn’t know if I wanted the responsibility of having to worry about my equipment. So I compromised. I didn’t pull the camera out often, and I brought by old 5D camera and my cheapest lens. My cheapest lens doesn’t really translate to being a great walk around lens (as seen by the foot traffic we had to stop so I could stand back far enough in order to get a full length picture of my family), but I did what I could :).

We wanted to take a road trip out west with the kids this year, but they talked us into a cruise with Royal Carribean. It was our first cruise and it did not disappoint. Here’s a glimpse at our week!

Roatan, Honduras
Belize. Snorkeling off this tiny island was the highlight of our trip.

An Oliver Inn Wedding. A Tippecanoe Place Wedding Reception. An intimate gathering of family and close friends. A day to remember.

The Couple

You may remember Miles and Cat from their engagement session a few months ago. They’re the faces behind Cat Alkire Photography, and we’ve been so honored to get to know them as they’ve planned their wedding. If you remember, they met on MySpace and had common “friends.” They dated long distance before Miles made the move to Indiana. Watching these two interact is heartwarming. Their love RADIATES. I think Troy and I were both crying during their first look :).

The Wedding

I always wonder how I would plan my wedding differently now that I’m a wedding photographer. I play that game of “if I were to choose a dress today, which one would I choose?….” Cat and Miles got to live my dream :). They knew they wanted a small, intimate wedding with their closest friends and family. They chose two perfect venues that complimented the ease of their day so well. The spared no details– Cat’s lettered invitations,  Miles’ custom suit, an incredible tablescape planned and executed by Cat and her florist, Always N Bloom, ITALIAN WEDDING COOKIES– what more can I say?!

Here’s a few of our favorites from their perfect October day…

We’ve been a little quiet on the blog recently, but we’re back with a Marion, Indiana engagement session that we’re excited to share with you!

Andrew and Cecilia don’t live in Central Indiana anymore so imagine how thrilled we all were when the evening and temperature were PERFECT for our session. We had our plan and locations in place, and can I just tell you how excited I was to pass by the architecture on this building and see it in a new light?! I drive by this building at least once a week so how have I never noticed it before?!

These two met as Freshman at Purdue so I love that they’re going to get married on campus next September. Once again, we believe wholeheartedly we have the privilege of photographing the most amazing couples and Andrew and Cecilia are no exception! Here’s a few of our favorites:

The Barn on Boundary wedding. We’ve been anxious to shoot at this new venue that’s just right down the road from our tiny Indiana town. We’ve heard great things about the barn venue and it’s owner, Kristy, and it did not disappoint!

You may remember Lance and Mallory from their engagement session last fall. We love the opportunity to photograph engagement sessions because it allows us to spend time with our brides and grooms before their wedding day!

The Couple

Mallory’s grandfather and Lance’s father coached basketball together so they’ve known each other their whole lives. When she was in middle school, she always had a huge crush on Lance– who was then a high school basketball player! But that crush turned into something more her freshman year while attending Ball State. That was four years ago…

The Wedding

When I first met Mallory, we discussed her barn wedding. She had the dress, the look, and the day envisioned– sparkles, glitz, and deep purple hues. Her vision played out perfectly…

Here’s a few of our favorites from the day!
